Education: ConventionalI graduated from Earlham College in 1987 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. I then went on to medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo where I completed my studies and received my MD in 1991. My internship and residency training in Pediatrics took place at the University of Michigan's CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I completed this training in 1994 and then moved to the Pacific Northwest. My wife, Lisa, and I settled in Vancouver, Washington where I worked as a board certified pediatrician from 1994 to 2000.
Education: AlternativeStarting in the late 90's I became interested in Chinese medicine because my wife, Lisa, became a patient of acupuncture and experienced great success. She then decided to go to the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine's 3 year program and she became an acupuncturist. I pursued training in medical acupuncture through the UCLA program designed for physicians. I also studied with other teachers and learned other alternative medicine modalities in the ensuing few years. In the year 2000 we opened our own practice, called Points of Origin, PLLC. I subsequently learned about the Bodytalk system and I became a certified practitioner. I now use these various modalities in my practice and I enjoy seeing patients of all age groups.BackgroundI was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Western New York, just south of Buffalo. I am the middle child of three with one older brother and one younger sister. We grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone else. My father is Korean and a retired Protestant chaplain. My mother is Caucasian and a retired Registered Nurse. I spent two years in Japan with my family while we were the host family in Hiroshima, Japan at the World Friendship Center, a Quaker founded organization. I graduated from high school in Gowanda, New York in 1983 and then went to Earlham College. While in college I spent 6 months in Colombia, South America on an exchange program and lived with a host family there. I value the international experiences I've had in other countries and I always highly recommend that young people take advantage of the opportunity to travel if it is available to them.PersonalI have been married to my wife, Lisa, since 1991. We live and work together, as our clinic adjoins our home on a piece of property just outside the city limits of Vancouver, Washington (not BC). We have dogs and cats, and we enjoy gardening and taking care of our fruit trees, grapevines and flowers. I enjoy my practice very much, and feel fortunate to have loyal patients and families who have been with me through the years. I enjoy being outdoors, long distance running, computers and technology, music and movies.PhilosophyMy philosophy on medicine and life has changed throughout the past several years. I used to think and believe in the conventional way of doing things, whether in medicine or other topics. Now I have a greater appreciation for the need to integrate many diverse fields together in order to more closely describe what's really going on in our lives and in the world. I will try to share some of these insights in the pages of this website but mostly I will try to convey the best information I can on this topic of energy medicine and how it relates to your kids.Peter Hanfileti, MD To listen to a recording of my welcome letter to parents or to download a copy of it, go to this page called the The information on this site is for your educational purposes only, it is not intended as specific medical advice for your child.
