Birth Energy Medicine and Your Baby
The birth event for you and your child is a milestone like no other.
The impact of the first few minutes, hours, and days becomes the experiential introduction to the world for your baby.
Up until the birth process, your baby has only had previews of the coming attractions of you and your family members through sound, touch, and feeling while in utero.
Those prenatal influences have already
left their mark on your baby's budding consciousness and now the reinforcement comes from being able to use all five senses to explore and experience
the "outside" world.
What mother and baby experience during labor is a shared event between the two of them.
The baby is at some level aware of the dynamics of the process, the mother's feelings (physical, mental, emotional) during labor and I have seen cases where this relationship has a carry over effect into the baby's early years and beyond.
Being able to neutralize or alter the settings that might be put into place for the baby after a long and difficult labor period is very useful for both mother and baby.
Using birth energy medicine principles and specifically BodyTalk as a modality, improvements can be made even when significant time has past. This particular scenario comes up frequently in cases I have had in my practice.
The moment of birth and its energy medicine connotations are such that complications occurring with the mother causing her stress in that moment can have an impact on the baby.
I know this sounds outlandish, but in the birth energy medicine paradigm, these influences are real and can have long-lasting effects.
Of course, different people and families have varying degrees of sensitivity and therefore we cannot say that all babies or all parents will be affected by these energy situations.
However, I have learned not to discount the specifics of what was taking place right at the moment of birth because of its possible imprinting effect on all concerned.
The first few minutes, hours and days after birth are very important indeed.
The baby has to get used to being in an air filled, noisy, relatively cold world (temperature-wise), and they have to get used to being a part of the family in a new way.
Most families will intuitively know that anything they can do to promote a smooth transition and adjustment for the baby will be well worth it.
I like to take the opportunity to point out that at this stage, your baby doesn't know the difference, nor do they really know what exactly they want as far as schedule of feeding, sleeping, comfort measures, etc.
You as parents have the opportunity to start off with a calm demeanor and an attitude of guiding your baby rather than reacting to their every move or sound.
This is difficult at first, but what you will find is that your baby will take his or her cues from you and respond over time in the way you expect, especially with continued reinforcement from you.
The birth energy medicine perspective gives us the understanding that your baby is taking in energy related information all the time; from you and your family, from the environment, and from themselves.
If this concept can be understood and assimilated
from the very beginning, your child's life experience will be off to a great start!
