Chinese Medicine and Your ChildI want to give you an idea of how you as a parent can benefit from learning about Chinese medicine and your child. Even though I was trained as a conventional pediatrician, I find the Chinese medicine system and way of evaluating a patient truly holistic and comprehensive because we are not limited by just the physical or the measurable. That is not to say that Western medical diagnosis and treatment is not valuable, I just believe it is incomplete. In this section I will show you how I have made use of this very elegant and logical system of energy medicine for the benefit of my patients and for my own ongoing education and continued learning. My intention is also to show that a truly holistic approach to your child must be inclusive, not exclusive of other modalities and ways of thinking. To me, this is a much more realistic way to evaluate and treat your child and is the underpinning of my striving to promote what I call "Reality Based Medicine". To get a more general introduction to this concept of correlating chinese medicine and your child, you may want to read more about symptoms and your child here.
Chinese Medicine Tailored for ParentsMy goal is to give you the information you need to make an informed choice about how to help your child. I believe that the Chinese medicine approach offers a wonderful foundation through which you can gain clarity and insight about your own child. The system is logical and can be discussed in terms that everyone can understand including your own child. The Chinese medicine system is a huge academic field unto itself and I will not even try to duplicate the many resources that are available both online and offline. Instead, this will be a practical and simplified presentation specifically for parents who have limited time and just want the relevant information that will have the most direct impact on their own child and family. As I have mentioned before, your understanding and influence as a parent is key to your child's health and wellbeing, and far outweighs anything those of us in the
practitioner role could possibly do in our limited interactions with you and your child, either in person or via other forms of communication.
Organ and Meridian Energy FunctionsBy clicking on any one of the names of organs and meridians listed in the figure below, you will go to a specific page showing the corresponding energy functions, symptoms, and associated conditions. This will show you how all-encompassing this perspective is and how valuable it can be for your understanding of Chinese medicine and your child.
In addition, I believe this way of looking at your child holds tremendous promise in the area of prevention, as the system is able to predict and anticipate problems which may crop up in the future, based on the organs and meridian energy circuits that have been involved in the past. I will elaborate more on this intriguing concept on subsequent pages. The information on this site is for your educational purposes only, it is not intended as specific medical advice for your child.
